Big Data is becoming a very important resource for many application domains such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Big Data Analytics (BDA), and Machine Learning (ML). Therefore, extracting business value and innovating in many of the future industries relies heavily on the ability to process faster the growing amounts of data being collected.
At the same time the physical limits of classical general-purpose computing system was reached with respect to compute scaling. Consequently, it is not possible anymore to increase your system performance by just replacing the CPU-based homogeneous multicore system with a new faster one. Instead, performance should be achieved through application-specific customization that can be executed efficiently on heterogeneous computing systems with hardware accelerators, such as Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), Graphical Processing Units (GPUs), or even Quantum Processors (QPUs).
